OpenOffice Charts and rant

Since the last posts, I've updated 2.2.1 and accidentally replaced the development snapshot of OpenOffice.org Chart which has better chart options. OpenOffice has been great alternative to Microsoft Office. However there are two thing that driving me nuts.

The first thing is the “Find and Replace” of special characters such as newline character. It does support advanced features such as regular expressing and formatting search, however there is no easy way to find and replace extra newlines (paragraph marks).

The next thing is the scatter plot. It does support scatter plot (XY plot) however it does not support more than one X-values. And the most of all, X column must be in the left most column. Therefore, I always have to create new data table to make scatter chart if the X column is not in the correct place.

I cannot select X and Y separately!

Hopefully, in the next version of OpenOffice, they finally integrate the OpenOffice chart project.

Update: OpenOffice 2.3 is out. It has better Chart options. See posts
