More details on ACARD-9010

Pic from acard.com

ACARD RAM disk comes in two models: ANS-9010 (eight DDR2 slots) and ANS-9010B (six DDR slots). Both models come with a CF slot and battery that "enough to finish the backup". I'm guessing it is not sufficient to retain data up to 10 hours like in Gigabyte i-RAM. However with my i-RAM battery died after only 10 months, I better assume the data dies when power outage.

In ANS-9010 model, it states upto 400MB/sec transfer rate. Since SATA2 support up to 300MB/sec, ACARD uses two SATA2 ports in RAID to achieve 400MB/sec (I'm just guessing here.)

Overall, it is better alternative to Gigabyte i-RAM Box which only have four DDR slots (DDR2 is cheaper and power efficient than DDR) and HyperDrive which has eight more expensive registered ECC memory slots.

  • Four DDR2 SO-DIMM memory slots (8GB Max)
  • However it supports up to 32GB Max if 8GB memory stick ever available
  • SATA/SAS interface
  • 800MB/sec
  • Hard drive/CF for backup

My previous posts:

Gigabyte i-RAM

  • SATA/150 interface (I benchmarked around 120MB/sec read speed)
  • Four DDR1 memory slots (4GB max)
  • Powered by PCI standby power even during computer is off

My previous posts:

Gigabyte i-RAM 2 RAMDiSK BOX

  • 8GB Max 4GB Max
  • Four cheaper DDR2 expensive DDR1 memory slots
  • SATA/300 SATA/150 interface speed
  • No standby power during power off

My previous posts:

HyperDrive 4

  • 8 DDR1 memory slots
  • 16GB with 2GB Registered ECC memory stick
  • 126 MB per second
  • IDE/SATA interface

My previous posts:

DDRdrive

I'm not sure whether the company is still working on prototype or they even exists anymore.

  • PCI-E x1 interface
  • Four DDR1 slot
  • Power only from external power supply?

HyperDrive4 on Gearlog

Didn't see GearLog's coverage on HyerDrive4 yesterday. HyerDrive4 is too expensive and i-RAM's isn't going anywhere. I think they'll be killed by flash based disk this year.
